ROVING_WORLD CARGO FOR ANYWHERE ADJUNCT TO COMMERCE (10 a.m.) NEW YORK, April 30. The world's 'first international “air tramp,” the Port of Sydney, a converted four-engined Halifax bomber, which left England on April 23 and is flying a roving course round the world carrying machinery, aeroplane parts and foodstuffs, took off from La Guardia field to-day and headed in a westward direction with the airports of call dependent upon the cargoes it finds. It is one of 15 Halifaxes already owned by London Aero and Motor Services. Limited, which is building up a fleet of cargo planes to roam the world seeking cargo for any destination at any place they might stop. The pilot. Captain Keith Thiele, of Christchurch, New Zealand, said the present flight was far removed from a stunt or record seeking. Its purpose was to carry to New Zealand and Australia the idea that the new service was the twentieth century adjunct to commerce.
