ELECTRIC POWER CUTS
Sir, —The electricity cuts have been fairly well discussed by many corresondents, but, in view of their disrupting effect on business and the inconvenience they are causing in the home, I feel that further discussion and questions are justified. In my previous letter I asked the reason for the inequalities in length of cut-off periods of Gisborne as compared with say Napier, Hastings, Palmerston North, to mention only a few. I understand their cuts are much shorter daily than Gisborne's. I have seen it stated that the Poverty Bay Power Board was instructed to make a further saving on last winter’s power consumption, hence giving Gisborne its present poor electricity service. Were not other power boards given the same instructions? It so, other towns should be on similar power cuts to those of Gisborne. Without being presumptuous, it appears to mo that, in view of these obvious discrepancies between Gisborne and other centres, .the Poverty Bay Power Board could well submit a case to the Government Electricity Controller to reconsider Gisborne's cuts. EQUALITY.
