SEA POWER AT LAST

MAJOR PRIZE COLLECTED (Herald Special Service.) It was gratifying to see that consistent performer, Sea Power, rewarded with a win at the Southland races last Saturday, for if any horse in the Dominion had earned a win on consistency it was he. Although it took Sea Power 2.20 to win the Waiau Handicap, he won well by over a length from Sumra, and thus broke that long run of seconds and thirds this season. Sumra did better than on the opening day. but Foxcha.se. Pride of Mossburn, and Siegform did not run up to their best form. Gentiality was having his third steeplechase of the season. As he has won them all. this Sir Simper five-year-old must be something above the average and may by August be good enough to take on the Grand National Steeplechase, a race that has already been annexed by BiH Hazlett with the Colonel Cygnus-Fiickcr gelding Astral Flame. » Amorlnd, who won the Hurdles, recorded his first success as a jumper and his only win since March, 194 G, at Oamaru. There was a time when this gelding gave indications of developing first-class handicap form. As a four-year-old he won four handicaps on end, before being purchased by his present owner, Mr. D. McFarlane. Although •he has won races for that owner it is doubtful if he has reoaid the four figures paid for him. He is now an eight-year-old.
