GATE PA EVENTS

FORM A FAIR GUIDE GOING IMPROVED INCREASED ATTENDANCE (HernM Special Service.; Form worked out fairly correctly with the main event going to Silver Lighting on the second day of the Bay of Plenty meeting at the Gate Pa course, Tauranga, on Saturday. Overhead conditions were much improved in comparison with the opening day, and the attendance showed a considerable increase. The going was firmer, though the track was not fast. Silver Lighting was sired by the New Zealand-bred Silver Stick, who will be at the disposal of Gisborne breeders this season, from a mare named Sunny Jane, by Hazrat from Venus Abbey, by Quin Abbey from Fctuaio, by Sylvia Park, tracing back to Venus Transit, who won the Great Northern Derby 70 years back. This pedigree, although sound, is not exactly fashionable, and one has to go back many years to trace winners, so that if Silver Stick can resurrect this line. Poverty Eav breeders will be fortunate that this horse has been brought to the district. Silver Stiek has a lot to recommend his possibilities on as he was sired by the champion. Beau Pere, from Silver Rule by that highly-successful horse, Chief Ruler, from Silver Link, a great galloper 20 odd years- ago, by Achilles from Secret Link, by Bezonian (Valesque from Gas by Donovan from the illustrious No. 1 mare Illuminata) from Chainstiteh, by Chainshot, by Musket, tracing back to the unnumbered taproot known as Sharkie. Successful Debut Having his first race over hurdles. Land Warden made a successful debut by annexing the Kamia jumping event in which Default, Stock Exchange and the Gisborne-engaged Waiwainui were scratched. Land Warden was quite a successful middle distance hack. Although he has been in the money a few times in open company, he has failed to make that grade. He is a chestnut six-year-old by Lord Warden. Lotto failed to run up to expectations although second. As the winner took the decision by the best part of 10 lengths, while Royce was third, the indications are that this hurdle field was not strong. The hurdler, Hazra, beat the form hacks in the mile Maunganui Handicap, while second was the well-backed Pavaals. with Hunting Park third. The winner is by Hazrat from Venus Abbey, oy Quin Abbey, who sired many good jumpers. Wonder Boy Again. Wonder Boy proved it was no fluke when he won the two-year-old race on the opening day, as in the Motif! Handicap he beat the same field again with an advancement in weight, while Peranui. runner-up the first day, was not in the money this time. Rosslare, who won a division maiden race the first day, was the winner of the sprint race on Saturday, the Railway Flack. This Dink-Tralee four-year-old. who has not done a great deal of racing, may be a good sort in the makings. The public received four place dividends in the Railway Hack when Balancer was second, with third money being divided between the topweight, Quick Draw, and another welloacked candidate, Desert Patrol.
