MAIDS WEAR PINK

At St. Mary’s Church. Lowe street, the Rev. Father McGuire officiated on Saturday, April 19, at the marriage of Shirley Dawn, daughter of Mrs Griffin, Desmond road, and Mr Jack Griffin, Ruatoria, to Bruce, son of Mr and Mrs F. A. Parker, Palmerston road. The wedding gown worn by the bride was of heavy, cream satin, the long sleeves having insets of lace, the softly folded bodice, finished with small buttons beings attached to a circular train which also featured lace insets, the hemline finishing with a narrow pleating. The exquisite embroided silk tulle veil was held in place with a wreath of miniature velvet lillies and sheaf of cream chrysanthemums and roses was carried. Mr W. F. Kennedy gave his niece away. Miss Margaret Duncan and Miss Shirley Nowell, bridesmaids, were dressed alike in pale pink triple sheer over satin. They were fashioned with cross-over bodices, cap sleeves, and swallow tail scalloped' peplum finished with plaited belts and full gored skirt. Their halos were pink and mauve chrysanthemums, and trailing bouquets of mauve and pink chrysanthemums were carried. Their mittens were of matching sheer. On leaving the church, the bride was presented fith a lucky shoe by Miss Betty Piper. Attending the bridegroom were the best man, Mr Tom Walton, North Auckland, and Mr Jim Cleary, Gisborne, groomsman. A black braided suit, with touches of white was worn by Mrs Griffin with a shoulder spray of autumn tomngs, when she received her guests at the Bon Accord. The bridegroom’s mother assisted wearing a black wool georgette suit, trimmed with a white shoulder spray in mauve toning. Mrs E. H. Williams sang two solos at the reception. Travelling on her honeymoon to the South Island by plane Mrs Parker wore a blue teal ensemble with brown accessories.
