LITERARY CIRCLE
The usual monthly meeting of the Literary Circle of the Women’s Club, was held last Monday, those present including Mesdames V. Clement, convener, M. Lawless, hon secretary, F. R. Hill .tea secretary, A. V. Hooper, W. G. Alexander, H. Gilmer, McLean, D. Walworth C. Ferris, A. W. Beale. H. F. Sinclair, F. R. Gray, B. Hamilton, H. Holmes, Blunt, Miss Mclean. New programmes for the year, the work of Mrs Clement, were distributed to all present. Owing to an unforseen occurrence, the May programme was substituted for the April one. The five readers for the afternoon were Mrs Alexander (“Camping out in the Winterless North,” an extract from a work of the New Zealand writer Isabel Andrews), Mrs Bell (who recounted a similar incident, Mrs C. Ferris (an extract from F. W. Thomas’ “Merry-go-round”), Mrs Gray. (“Utopia-Feminine Model,” condensed from "Pitching Horseshoes” bv Billie Ross), Mrs Clement, Bob Hope’s, “I Never Left Home”). The readers for May will be Mesdames Gilmer, Holmes, Hooper, Hamilton and Hill, and the readings will be from Tennyson. Those unable to read should communicate with Mrs Lawless, ’phone 2201. Players in the birthday play. "Puss-in-the-Corner,” who are Mesdames Gray, Beale. Blunt and Hamilton, were notified that reheasals would be held on Tuesday mornings. Mrs Hill and committee helpers dispensed afternoon tea.
