WANGANELLA DISPUTE OMINOUS POSSIBILITIES (P.A.) WELLINGTON. April 30. Increasing ominous possibilities in the Wanganella hold-up were revealed last night when proposals were vigorously presented to the annual meeting of .the Wellington Engineers’ Union to widen the dispute in sympathy with the 200 workers whose resignations from the workshops of the repair contractors, William Cable and Company, Limited, have already gravely enlarged the situation Had the crowded meeting accepted the proposals, which are reported to have excited a great deal of enthusiasm, Wellington would have been faced with the prospect of work stoppages in engineering firms generally. A dangerous situation would have been created, it was commented in union circles to-day. A later message -states that further moves in an attempt to reach settlement of the Wanganella dispute can be expected this week. Union officials concerned held a long conference yesterday, and the - matter was again under consideration by the Government. i Representatives of the Employers’ Federation visited the Minister of Labour, Mr. A. McLagan, in the afternoon.
