EMPLOYERS’ ATTITUDE
WANGANELLA DISPUTE RESTS WITH CABINET (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 1. It is stated by the New Zealand Employers’ Federation that the employers’ attitude to the disputes involving the Wanganella and William Cable and Company, Limited, was expressed on Tuesday afternoon in discussions with the Minister of Labour. Mr. A. McLasan, and yesterday morning to the Director of Kmoloyment and Labour, Mr. H. L. Bockctt. Nothing decisive had emerged from the discussions, but the employers had emphasised that they were ready to continue on the Wanganella tribunal as soon as the men resumed work on the liner in accordance with the Government’s own requirements. It was considered that the settlement of the problem now rested with the Government. but there was no intention on the oart of the employers to urge undue haste, as it rerlieed that the Government would need to make a careful r->-aminaticn o f the issues involved. However, should no decision be reached, ji might be necessary for the emoloy■o—• to consider "’hat should be done to resolve tlm problem.
