INDIAN RIOTS FLARE UP AGAIN

MANY PERSONS KILLED ON INJURED

BRITISH SHOULD REMAIN SUGGESTION

(11.15 a.m.) NEW DELHI, April 25. At least 10 persons were killed and 75 injured in Calcutta in what the police describe as one of the worst outbreaks of communal noting since the Hindu-Moslem disturbances were renewed a month ago. Abdul Fzlul Huq, a former Moslem Premier of the Bengal Province, speaking in Calcutta to-day advocated “that since those who have sown the wind are unable to control the whirlwind,’’ there should be an immediate agitation to keep the British in India, so that India with British help could proceed peacefully along the road of progress. . . Four persons were killed and nine injured in communal incidents in New Delhi. A 24-hour curfew has been imposed. Moslem shops are closed as a protest against alleged police excesses. After 11 communal incidents, four of which involved bombs, Moslem League demonstrators shouting, “Down with the Congress Government, ” attacked a police station in the Sylhet district, Assam. Police fire killed one demonstrator and injured six.

Ncw Partition Move

According to the New Delhi correspondent _ of the Bombay Chronicle “people in the know” envisage a plan by the Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten, accepting the principle of partition. The plan proposes the appointment of a boundary commission to demarcate the Moslem majority areas in Assam, Bengal and the Punjab and the amendment of the Government of India Act to give the Viceroy two Cabinets ,onp'to advise him on Hindustan and the other on Pakistan. A conference will discuss the plan soon. The Moslem leader, Mr. Jinnah, has made a new move toward a settlement of the Indian problem, states another message. Pie has issued a statement appealing to Moslems in the NorthWest Frontier Province to end the civil disobedience campaign and keep the peace. “I feel that Lord Mountbaiten is de-

termined to play fair,” he said. "I appeal to Moslems to give him every opportunity to understand the situation fully.” Mr. Jinnah disclosed the Frontier Province Government’s decision to release 5000 members of the Moslem League arrested during the civil disobedience campaign due to his conversations with the Viceroy. Mahasabha, the Hindu orthodox organisation, has called a general strike in Calcutta to protest against the alleged police atrocities during the recent disturbances. Business areas are almost at a standstill. Mr. Suhrawardy, the Moslem League leader, has accused Mahasabha of trying to make a political advantage of the slightest incident and warned the organisation that such methods were fraught with grave possibilties for future disturbances.
