BRITISH COAL OUTPUT
MARKED IMPROVEMENT MORE FOR INDUSTRY LONDON, April 23. The President of the Board of Trade, Sir Stafford Cripps, announced to the national joint advisory council that the coal output prospects for the summer months are so much better than seemed possible a few weeks ago that the basic allocation to industry of 50 per cent of the requirements is to be raised substantially from June 1. The better prospects are due to the improved output per man shift since the beginning of 1947 and also to the present gratifying rate of recruitment of ex-miners' who need little or no training.
