INVITED TO SAMOA

U.N. TRUSTEESHIP EXPERTS STUDY OF SELF-RULE PLEA (S a.m.) LAKE SUCCESS. April 23. At New Zealand’s suggestion, the Trusteeship Council decided to send a commission to Western Samoa to study the territory’s petition for sclf-Govern-ment. Sir Carl Berendsen, who declared that the New Zealand Government was anxious to have the fullest possible study made, said the commission should consist of experts in colonial administration who should stay long enough in the territory to make an exhaustive investigation. The council decided that the commission should visit Western Samoa during June, July and August. Sir Carl Berendsen, replying to questions regarding New Zealand’s feelings about the petition, said the commission would have to make an impartial study and that any expression of views now by New Zealand would be unwise.
