MAIDEN DEAD HEAT
KEEN H.B. TUSSLE (Herald Correspondent.) The Tomoana Electric Handicap, the race for maideners at time of starting, resulted in a dead heat between Nighten'a and Hostility at the Hawke’s Bay meeting on Saturday. Hostility was always in the first two from the fall of the flag and in a great tussle hung on long enough to divide the major honours. Hawke’s Bay and Lorenzo had every show, but were not good enough. Run Bahadur, with the services of W. J. Broughton, did a little better to weigh-in fourth. Paulus was never in the call. The Poverty Bay owned Gondolino, by Hazrat from Gold Sac (Hunting Song-Golconda), having her first race and ridden by an experienced boy, raced greenly as expected. Abbey Dornie, a chestnut four-year-old gelding by Lang Bian from Abbey's Only, showed improvement by finishing on to occupy fifth position. This was only his second effort,
