BEST OF SEASON
WOOL’ AUCTION PRICES AT TIMARU SCOURED MERINO 55.R1 (P.A.) TIMARU, April 23. The fourth and final wool sale of the 1946-47 season at Timaru. held yesterday, was regarded both by the selling firms and by the buyers as being the most satisfactory sale in South Canterbury this season. Prices were fully firm on the Dunedin sale last week and, in several cases, wools of equal quality to the. offerings at the March sale in Timaru advanced a few pence. Record for Dominion? A feature of the sale was the high prices paid for scoured Merino wool. One line of 70 bales sold up to 55id, which is thought to be a record for New Zealand this season. The following is the official report issued by the South Canterbury Woolbrokers' Association: There was a total offering of nearly 5000 bales, including for the most part greasy, scoured and slipe wools. Generally speaking, the wool was late shorn and showed the effects of the season. The market was a remarkably good one, bidding being animated throughout and, taking into consideration the quality, the market was the best of the season as far as the fine wools were concerned. It appeared that some buyers were still short of their requirements, and for these lots prices were well above the previous sales.
