INSTRUCTIONS IGNORED
USE OF WATER HEATERS WELLINGTON WARNING (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 26. Thousands of Wellington consumers of electricity had not turned their water heaters off on Monday night when the power cut operated from 11.30 p m to 6 a.m. yesterday morning, according to the city electrical engineer, Mr. R. S. Maunder, who stated that if they continued to ignore instructions to do so. even more drastic power cuts might have to be considered by the council’s electricity department. Mr. Maunder was not critical of all consumers, and had particular praise for those in areas where the power overnight is left on to supply bakers and essential services. Night patrols operating in those areas, he said, did not see any consumers using lighting. There was a total blackout, which was pleasing to the authorities.
