NEW CARTAGE RATES

TIMBER FROM ROTORUA TRANSPORT BY ROAD AUCKLAND. March 26. New rates for road cartage of sawn t briber from the mills in the Rotorua district which cannot be carried by the railways because of the truck shortage have been announced by the goods services charges tribunal. The charges, which are based on the latest costs figures, will be submitted to the stabilisation commission. They are; Putaruru railhead to Auckland, 7ijd per 100 superficial feet per five miles tor all timber. , , Rotorua mills to Auckland, i£d per five miles for green timber and 5Jd for drv. Mamaku mills to Auckland, 7Jd for both green and dry timber, the distances to be scheduled to the nearest five miles. Concerning Mangapechi to Hamilton further investigations are to be made. The ferry charges for timber sent north will be added to the charges, and all rates are subject to review at any time to meet alterations in costs. Where backloading is available a discount of 20 per cent of the authorised rate will be allowed.

It is stipulated that the new rates apply only to cartage beyond the area of the operator's present license on the instructions of the Railways Department.
