AUGMENTED SERVICES
TRAIN ARRANGEMENTS PASSENGER EXPRESSES (P.A.) WELLINGTON. March 15. Tentative arrangements for an augmented train service to meet the anticipated heavy Easter passenger traffic were announced yesterday by the Minister of Railways, Mr. R. Semple. The Minister said that, although the coal storks were still far from satisfactory, a considerable saving would be effeo'ed by the cancellation of numerous goods trains. Provided further supplia* of coal come forward os expected. it was noped the programme, envisaged could he put into operation Main Trunk Facilities The tentative programme is for three trains each way between Wellington and Auckland on Wednesday, April 2, six on Thursday, and two on Good Friday. For returning holiday travellers there will be four trains from Auckland and three from Wellington, An additional train from Wellington will make a connection with a daylight trip of the steamer express from Lyttelton. On Wednesday three trains will run each way between Wellington and Auckland. In the* Auckland-Whangarei, Auckland-Rotorua and AucklandTaneatua areas expresses which at present run three days a week, will run daily from Wednesday. April 2, to Wednesday. April 9, inclusive. The same arrangements will apply in respect of the Wellington-New Plymouth and Wellington-Gisborne areas, where expresses at present run three days a week. In addition to these services night trains will run between Wellington and Napier on Easter Thursday. Relief trains will be provided in various areas on selected days. South Island Trains In the South Island expresses will run daily between Invercargill and Christchurch from Wednesday, April 2, to Wednesday, April 9, inclusive, with additional trains on selected days. The Christchurch-Grcymouth express will also run daily between the same dates. Provision has also been made for the running of additional passenger trains in the Christchurch-Pi.cton and Dun-edin-Invcrcargill areas. The Minister said it was not proposed to disturb the present arrangements for the reservation of seats and sleeping berths, whereby applications for such accommodation could be made at an allotting station up to 14 days ahead of the date of travel, and 16 days in advance at a non-allotting station. Passengers making outward journeys between Wednesday. April 2, and Saturday, April 5, inclusive, could lodge applications for return reservations up to and including April g.
