BRAWL AMONG CREW

FREIGHTER HELD UP THREATS OF “BASHING” SYDNEY, Jan. 26. A drunken brawl among the crew of the 6000-ton British freighter Romney prevented the vessel from leaving Sydney lor England yesterday. Members of the engine-room crew, who are alleged to have tried to prevent the vessel sailing, jumped overboard as she left the wharf. Seamen trying to release the mooring lines were threatened and some left the ship, fearing assault. The mooring lines were later cut away with axes and the ship was towed to Rose Bay. where she will remain at anchor until the crew are returned or replaced. The brawl is alleged to have started when drunken members of the enginerooiri crew threatened to “bash” anybody who tried to take the ship out. No other cause of the dispute is given.
