WORK RESUMED
MINE IDLE FOR TWO DAYS (P.A.) GREYMOUTH. Jan. 29. The Strongman mine, after two idle days as a result of a dispute between the management and tlie union concerning the appointment of new workers to a surface position, resumed work this morning. This was in accordance with the decision reached at a mass meeting in Runanga last night. The Liverpool mine, which was also concerned in the dispute, a number of men declining to work yesterday, also resumed normal operations to-day. Tt is not known whether the dispute has been actually settled, but the Minister of Labour, Mr. A. McLagan, again visited the Strongman mine to-day for further discussions.
The Wallsend State mine was also idle on Monday to allow the men to attend the funeral of a former worker. The loss in production will be 50 tons of coal.
