ROYAL AIRLINERS

SAFETY DEVICES “CHAIR CHUTES” FITTED LONDON, Jan. 28. The King’s and Queen's personal Vickers Viking airliners which they are using on the South African tour are equipped with almost every known proved air safety device, including seats with fitted “chair chutes", the parachutes and harness forming part of the chairs’ upholstery. They can be donned in 15 seconds.

Some of the chairs are facing backward. which the experts consider would reduce the shock in a forced landing. Petrol tanks have been made crash-proof to reduce the risk of fire. Complete radio and radar equipment is installed.
