BRING OWN FOOD
BRITISH PROPOSAL CATERERS’ OPPOSITION “HUMILIATING SCHEME" (Special Correspondent.! (9 a.m.) LONDON, Jan. 28. The Board of Trade's proposal that tourists visiting Britain should be encouraged to bring at least part of their food supplies with them is unfavourably regarded by the British catering industry. An official of one West End firm described the scheme as “humiliating.” Nothing would do British caterers more harm than a world-wide advertisement that they were unable to do their job. Mr. William Frame, vice-president of the British Residential Hotels’ Association, said he was quite sure American
guests would not relish having more elaborate meals in the same restaurants as British diners.
The American Embassy in London has issued a circular to American diplomats appointed to positions in Britain advising them that extra stocks of fruit juices and other special American supplies are available from the Embassy canteen, “as the British rations are not considered adequate for American standards.”
