SOCIAL EVOLUTION

CANADIAN REFORMS BARRIER TO COMMUNISM (9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 28. “Canada has wisely and firmly committed itself to a broad programme of social evolution in the post-war years." said the Archbishop of Toronto, Cardinal McGuigan. in an interview in New York. Cardinal McGuigan, who is the first English speaking prelate to become the spiritual leader of Canada's 5,000.000 Catholics following the death of the Archbishop of Quebec, Cardinal Villeneuve. said Canada's present socialisation measures were among the best defences against the Canadian Communists' clever insidious tactics. Because of this realistic attitude among Canadians the country was adjusting itself in a well-ordered way to the post-war world. “Everybody realises that there is an evolution in social thinking and social action. We are thoroughly in accord with everything progressive that will air the masses. We, at the same time, hold with great conviction to our individual civil and religious freedoms."
