CITY FIRE ENGINE (P.A.) WELLINGTON. Jan. 27. A mass of twisted metal and splintered woodwork was all that remained of the body of a fire engine which crashed over a bank at the edge of Buckley road, Wellington about 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon. Seven of the crew of nine were injured. They were Senior Station-Officer T. E. Reid, Station-Officer R. A. Davidson, Driver M. Proctor and Firemen C. T. Dopson. G. Livingston, H. A. Hall ano L. A. McPhee. Reid and Dopson are still in hospital, but their condition last night was reported to be satisfactory. The road where the accident occurred is very narrow, and the driver of the engine attempted to pass a car parked at an angle to the kerb. The grass at the top of the bank gave way, and the engine travelled sideways to turn four complete somersaults before landing about 50 yards down the bank. At the time of the accident, the engine was going to a fire in Buckley road.

One of thme men, Fjreman G. Livingston, formerly of Gisborne, was caught in some barbed wire on the hillside, and suffered severe abrasions to his face.
