PAMIR AS FLAGSHIP
SYDNEY REGATTA
HONOUR TO SAILING SHIP
SYDNEY, Jan. 26
The New Zealand barque Pamir lias been accorded the honour of acting as tlie flagship for the huge regatta on Sydney Harbour which will be held tomorrow to commemorate the anniversary of the founding of the first settlement in Australia in 1788.
She will be moored off Kurraba point and with a naval gunboat will act as the starting and finishing line for ali events. This will be the first time in 50 years that a sailing ship has officiated as flagship for the regatta, which is the 111th of its kind. A record entry of 372 craft has been received and there will be events for boats ranging from ocean sailers to 11-footers. The first anniversary regatta held in 1827 was attended by the Royal Naval sailing ship. H.M.S. Rainbow and since then His Majesty’s vessels have most frequently held the key position. Last year’s flagship was the battleship H.M.S. Anson.
