DESTROYED BY FIRE
WAREHOUSE AND STOCKS INVERCARGILL BLAZE (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Dec. 20. The warehouse of Fair'pairn. Wright, Limited, and substantial stocks of groceries, hardware, cigarettes and chemists’ accessories were completely destroyed by fire early this morning. Units of the Invercargill Fire Brigade were called out a few minutes after 5 o clock, but the fire had such a strong hold on the corrugated iron building by then that there was no chance of saving it. The firemen concentrated their efforts on saving the adjoining Works Department buildings and equipment. The bandroom of the Battalion Band was severely damaged, but fortunately the instruments had not been left there. No details of the insurances, or an estimate of the loss, are available as the policies are held in Christchurch.
