FOOD FOR BRITAIN

DANISH SHIPMENTS HIGHER PRICES SOUGHT £1,000,000 MORE INVOLVED LONDON, Dec. 9. Denmark is asking Britain for increased prices for an additioal r 2,000 tons of agricultural produce she offered during 1947. which she is expected to make available by increased production and cuts in home consumption. The prices offered by Britain are said to amount to £1,000.000 lower than those asked by the Danes and, for the meantime at least, the talks have virtually broken down. The Danes base their request for higher prices on the J'act that the cost of feeding stuffs has doubled since the contracts were signed last July. The Danes point out that Britain pays higher prices to British farmers than to Denmark while the Danes get more for their produce from Russia. Finland, Sweden. France and Belgium than from Britain They agree, however that for some goods Britain pays the Dominion farmers a lower price than the Danish.

Denmark is offering Britain 4000 extra tons of butter next year at 3s per lb. Britain has offered 2s 5d per lb. Negotiations will be resumed in London in January.

The present "food agreements between the two countries are due for revision in April. _____
