N.Z. BAN REMOVED
DIRECT STOCK IMPORTS CATTLE FROM BRITAIN (Special Correspondent.) (10 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 10. At a meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of England, Lord Bledisloe, the retiring president, announced that farming interests in New Zealand had now agreed to the lifting of the embargo against the direct importation of British livestock into New Zealand. Formerly it was necessary to ship stock by way of Canada in order to avoid the danger of foot-and-mouth disease infection.
Lord Bledisloe pointed out that the methods of combating the disease in Britain had now vastly improved, and the establishment of a quarantine station had further removed the danger of the disease being carried abroad. The lifting of the New Zealand ban would give general satisfaction in Britain, where growing inquiries were being received from abroad for pedigree sheep and cattle. The first. post-war Royal Show is to be held at Lincoln from Jul” 1 to 4 next year.
