GOOD NEWS TO BRITAIN

ending of u.s. strike may avert bread cuts (10 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 8. “It is magnificent news,” said the Minister of Food, Mr. J. Strachey, about the ending of the American coal strike. “The best news I have had this week. It is going to make a tremendous difference.” The Observer’s political correspondent comments that it should now be possible to maintain Britain’s present bread ration unless new Jabour troubles occur, but the danger of a cut in the bacon ration remains. The’ration is at present three ounces weekly and may be cut to 2oz. The Associated Press correspondent in Copenhagen says that Denmark rejoiced at the news of the ending of the American strike which caused a fortnight's, restrictions on lighting and fuel supplies. Officials said the restrictions must continue until American coal is again moving from the ports.
