THOROUGHBRED SALES m \ LONDON, Dec. 8. The total of 865,740 guineas for the December sales of thoroughbreds at Newmarket, which ended on Friday, makes the total paid in 1046 for thoroughbreds more than £'2,000,000, says the Daily Telegraph. The best year before the war was 19o», when the sales brought £1,000,000 Ninety-two horses were sold at the New market blookstoek sales yesterday for 31,08 e guineas, making the week’s total 860,74(* guineas, or 289,355 guineas in excess o£ previous record. . Lord Durham paid 2400 guineas for a to-year-old, The Witch, by Sandwich from Miraculous. She, last March, was given to the seller, Major J. Denistoun, to use as a hack. She has been covered by the Legend of France.
