REPORTS DISCOUNTED

INFLATION IN AMERICA

SOME GOODS CHEAPER

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 4. Predictions during the election camnaign that the United States is headed for wild inflation culminating in economic collapse because of the lifting of price controls are scouted by Mr. W. H. Hindle, of Wellington, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, who has returned from a business visit to America.

Mr. Hindle says the law of supply and demand is beginning to operate effectively in the United States. Many goods are cheaper than when the ceilings were imposed. “Prices are high in the United States, but so are wages,”-Mr. Hindle adds. “Purchasing power is about the same as in New Zealand. I think the removal of controls was a good thing, and normalcy will be achieved much sooner than by removing a few at a time o\ r cr a long period.” Mr. Hindle says the range of goods selling in American stores is simply amazing.
