ONE-DAY SERVICE

GISBORNE-AUCKLAND MAIL AND FREIGHT The information that the postal anti railway authorities were co-operanii'- 1 , with a view io restoring the one ; : me daily mail and transport service between Gisborne and Auckland, was received at last evening’s monthly meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce During the past month the secretary, Mr. M J. White, had interviewed the chief postmaster at Gisborne and the Transport Department, and reported that it was expected that an improved Gisborne-Auckland mail service would commence early in December, whereby three mails a week would depart each way. On two occasions there would be a 3G-hour service, and the third would be somewhat longer, owing to the intervening week-end.

The president, Mr T. A. N. Corson, said he believed that the Government’s promise to reinstate the daily mail and freight services should be honoured, and if it was not honoured the chamber should take the matter up again with the Government.

Mr. If. C. Gregory thought that if nothing was done in restoring the service the next meeting of the chamber, the matter should be taken up with the Prime Minister, whoever he might be by that time. It was agreed by the chamber that the matter should be held in abeyance until the next meeting.
