ELECTRICITY NEXT

STATE CONTROL IRON AND STEEL PLAN NO CHANGE OF POLICY (10.30 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 22. Affirming the Government's intention to proceed with plans for socialising a number of industries, the Lord President of the Council. Mr. Herbert Morrison, in a speech at Glosgaw specifically replied to suggestions that the Government had retreated from its original stand in the case of iron and steel.

Mr. Morrison said the Government still meant to introduce a scheme for the public ownership and control over an essential part of the iron and steel industry, although he agreed that the Iron and Steel Board need not be involved.

“Electricity is on the list with iron and steel,” he said. “We have every intention of socialising them within the lifetime of the present Parliament.”
