STALIN’S ESCAPE
JAPANESE PLOT ASSASSINATION PLAY OSHIMA TELLS HIMMLER (10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Sept. 22. The Japanese Ambassador to Berlin, General Oshima, early in 1939 secretly informed Himmler of a Japanese plot to assassinate Marshal Stalin, according to the latest United States Government document in the scries “Nazi Conspiracy and Aggression.” Himmler conferred with Oshima on January 31, 1939, regarding long-range Japanese and German espionage projects aimed at Russia’s disintegration so as to help in the event of war. Himmler reported that Oshima had told him he had succeeded in sending 10 Russians armed with bombs across the frontier to kill Marshal Stalin. Several other Russians sent across the frontier had been shot.
