VICTORY PARADE CONTINGENT

THREE SERVICES

SAILING APRIL 20 REPRESENTATIVE LIST FIVE DISTRICT NAMES (P.A.) WELLINGTON. April 13. The names of personnel selected from the Army. Navy and Air Force to represent New Zealand at the victory parade in London on June 8 were announced last night by the Minister of Defence, Mr. F. Jones. "Great care has been'taken to ensure that till overseas service in all theatres of war counted in the selection,” said Mr. Jones' ‘All branches of the three services, including WA.AF, WRNS, WAAC and the New Zealand Army Nursing Corps were represented, and the quotas allotted were proportional to the numbers who had served in each branch. The selection was made to cover all parts of the Dominion, and personnel, of course, have been included to represent the Maori race. Sergeant Hulme is the only V.C. of this war included in the roll. Mr. Jones explained that the Government was most anxious that all V. of this war should be included in the contingent, and to this end had invited them all .to go. However, Captain Upham Lieutenant Elliott and Sergeant Hinton had replied that they had to decline the invitation with regret. It was hoped that Squadron Leader Trent, A r .C., would join the Air Force detachment in England. “It is now hoped,” said Mr. Jones, "that the Maunganui will be ready to sail on April 20. not April 22 as announced earlier.” The list of personnel chosen was given as follows by the Minister: — ARMY CONTINGENT Now Zealand Armoured Corps Lt.-Col.
