UNDERWEIGHT PORKERS

TEMPORARY MEASURE ASSISTING PRODUCERS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 6. In a statement yesterday the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. B. Roberts, announced that from Monday, April 8, the price in the North Island for underweight porkers ranging from 40 to 601 b. will be raised to the same schedule as now operating for pigs from 60 to 1201 b, i.e., 7\d per lb. This price will continue until June 30, 1946. "The farmers will appreciate that the acceptance of these lightweights for export is temporary,” said the Minister. "The measure is permitted only to assist producers in disposing of pigs which, through lack of food, cannot be carried to heavier weights. There is still an urgent need for the maximum production of pig meats. Farmers are urged, where possible, to carry pigs to more suitable weights.
