Food for Britain

A reply to his representations on the desire of many Aucklanders to make additional food sacrifices for individual people in the United Kingdom has been received by the Mayor of Auckland. Mr. J. A. C. Allum, from the Minister of Finance. Mr. W. Nash, who said that the British authorities were definite that the most equitable results would be obtained by pooling all food for the common good. However, they did concede that individual parcels of a limited quantity should be sent. The discussions are continuing to see. how best this can be used in the Dominionwide campaign.—P.A.

Sea Scouts New Headquarters

The building on Read’s Quay, which for some years has been occupied by the basket factory of the Returned Services Association, is soon to become vacant, owing .o the retirement of Mr. T. Morrison and the lack of basket willow supplies. This information together with the appreciation of the R.S.A. for the use of the building for some years, was received at yesterday's meeting of the Gisborne Harbour Board. Letters from the Gisborne Home Guard Band and the Takitimu Sea Scouts Group were received by the board asking for permission to use the building. The chairman, Mr. A. J. Nicol, mentioned that when the R.S.A. moved their headquarters from the nearby building to their proposed new one. it was the policy of the board to remove both buildings in order to further beautify Read’s Quay. Mr. I. J. Quigley, supported by Mr. C. Mills, moved that the Takitimu Sea Scouts Group, should be given permission to use the building for the storage of thenboats, with the agreement that it is at the pleasure of the board. This motion was carried by the board.
