PERJURY ALLEGED
(P.A.) PALMERSTON N„ Mar. 25. In the Magistrate’s Court Peter Gerard Cope, accountant and company director, Palmerston North, was charged before Mr. Marsack, S.M., that being a witness in a judicial proceeding charging him first as principal and alternatively as an accessory in an illegal sale of 200 gallons of motor spirit on or about February 23 last, as part of his evidence on oath, did assert as a matter of fact that he was in Auckland from February 22 to February 26, such assertion being known to Cope to be false and intended by him to mislead the court and thereby did commit, perjury. The accused was remanded for eight days, bail being allowed.
