MATAWAI BOWLS
The first challenges for the C. C. Somervell Champion Singles Button were .played on the Matawni bowling green last week-end. The holder, J. W. Smith, successfully withheld challenges from J. K. Brinnt, the score being 24—17, and from E. Ward, the score being 31—20. The next match will be between J. W. Smith and J. Wilson. The first round of the club’s singles championship will bo played during the next two week-ends, the draw being as follows;—R. C. Beaufoy v. J. Wilson; D. Langer v. A. Bulst; E. Ward v. J. W. Smith; F. McPike v. C. Hustler; S. Beaufoy v. B. Mazengarb; R. H, Beaufoy v. J. K. Briant; J. Emmerson v. G. Korte; F. Korte v. R. Baird; E. Fisher v. L. Cameron; A. Marshall v. G. Wilson; F. Powell v. A. Gibson; J. Pilmer v. S. Thompson; J. Mcßae v. W. Mortleman; E. Fraser v. G. Mortleman: T. Redpath, a bye; K. Mortleman v. J. Peddle.
