INFLUENZA TOLL

UNO SECRETARIAL STAFF GO a.m.) LONDON. .Tan. 30. Influenza and the common cold have taken such a heavy toll of the United Nations Organisation’s secretariat, particularly in the language and document sections, that UNO, except for sub-com-mittees which are carrying on as usual, will take a holiday to-morrow. The holiday is necessary because so many documents awaiting translation had piled up. No fewer than 52 members of the executive secretarial staff have gone down with influenza in the last four or five days. It is imnossible to ignore the sickness, since UNO could not carry on with about 25 per cent of its staff.
