ORDER FROM SYDNEY
EVIDENCE AT INQUIRY HOTEL BAN REMOVED (9 a.m.) CANBERRA. Jan 21 The statement that the order to dismiss Mr. E. C. Field, former valet to Brigadier D. Schreiber, from his position at the hotel came from Sydney was made by the licensee of die Kingston Hotel m evidence dm mg the inquiry ordered by the Prime Minister, Mr. J. B. Chifley. The inquiry, which is presided over by Mr. G. A. Findlay, adjourned until Monday afternoon. The licensee said he had been ordered to dismiss Mr. Field because of a lack of references He had no authority to agree to the reinstatement of Field. Mr Findlay suggested that the bail on Brigadier Schreiber's household should be lifted during the inquiry, as otherwise its presence constituted a threat of force. To this the secretary of the union replied that he had no power to agree but a meeting of the council would consider the matter. Meanwhile, the ban on three hotels has been lifted. The parties conferred in camera tor 20 minutes before the adjournment. The Trades and Labour Council secretary Mr. Blumenthal, said: We would like to call Brigadier Schreiber, but that is a matter for the commissioner.”
