HELP FOR ITALY
EASING OF TERMS
ABANDON REPARATIONS
PROPOSAL BY AMERICA
NEW YORK, Jan. 18.
When representatives of Britain, America, France and Russia meet in London next Monday to draft a peace treaty with Italy, Finland and former Balkan enemies, the United States will urge the Allies to abandon reparations claims against Italy and permit the Italians to keep most of their merchant mar.no and industrial equipment for civilian production.
This is reported by the Washington correspondent of the Associated Press, who adds that the United States considers that a bankrupt Italy needs such aid for recovery.
Italy would be compelled to draw on large American relief contributions to meet the Russian claim for 300,000,000 dollars in reparations on behalf of Russia, Yugoslavia, Greece, and Albania.
