U.S. FORCES IN GERMANY BURDEN ON TRANSPORT (9.30 a.m.) PARIS, Jan. 16. The American occupation force in Germany would be unable to function as efficiently as previously as a result of the speed-up of demobilisation announced by General Eisenhower, said Brigadier-General Eysler, the chief United States demobilisation officer in Europe. “More than 55,000 more men than previously planned will leave the European theatre in the next four months. The speed-up will hit transport services, communications and medical services hard,” he said. “German civilians would be used to perform many of the tasks at present done by American soldiers.”
General Eystcr pointed out that the new plans, however, would not affect the planned strength ol' the American occupation force of 300,000.
