MINERS TRAPPED
TERRIFIC EXPLOSION 5 KILLED, 60 MISSING (9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. 16. An explosion at the Havaco coal mine, in West Virginia, apparently deep in the workings, killed five miners and injured 15 more. The blast was so terrific that it shattered school windows 500 feet distant, injuring several negro school children. Two hundred miners came out alive. It is estimated that 60 others are trapped in the mine.
