HAWKE’S BAY HEAT

MAJOR FIRES FEARED RAIN PROSPECTS REMOTE (P.A.) NAPIER, Jan. 16. Napier and Hastings are experiencing a heat wave after the cool holiday weather. Yesterday the temperature soared to 92 degrees in Napier and 94 degrees in Hastings. The authorities are now considerably perturbed at the prospects of major fires on the Hawke's Bay grasslands.

Huge crowds are thronging the beaches. There is no indication yet of any early iet-up in the weather, and the prospects of rain are remote.
