WIFE ASSAULTED

FATHER OF 10 CHILDREN (P.A.) OPOTIKI, Jan. 17. In the Police Court yesterday Charles Grace, a Maori, residing at Onarumutu, was charged with' assaulting his wife, Matehaere Grace. Sergeant Isbister stated that the woman arrived at his residence on Sunday morning with her head and face covered with blood and in a very weak condition.

The accused's excuse, added Sergeant Isbister, was that he was drunk. The accused had 10 children, the oldest being 14 years of age. The accused did no work, living on social security derived from the children. He was convicted and sentenced to four months’ gaol with hard labour.
