POLICE RAID HOTEL

13 MEN BEFORE COURT FINES FROM £lO TO £1 Charged with consuming liquor at the Ormond Hotel after Hours on December 15, eight men were lined £2 and costs 10s by Mr. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. They were Jack Wattie, Thomas Frederick Bowes, Rodney Whitham, James Neenan, William Daniel OUey, Robert George Olley. Henry Graham McMillan and Joseph Robert Whittle. On an alternative charge of being found on licensed premises they were convicted and discharged. For being found in the Ormond Hotel on the same dale, Ronald Douglas Livingstone, Leonard Croon and Frank Dailey were each fined £1 and costs 10s. Norman Law was charged with selling liquor after hours. Mr. G. Bradley Smith, on hi s behalf, said the defendant had been conducting hotels for 30 to 35 years, and had never had a conviction recorded against him. Fie had never received a warning from either the licensing committee or the police. Fie had no knowledge of the breach with which he was charged, as he had retired tor the night. The defendant was fined £lO, and costs 10s.

For supplying liquor after hours, Ivan Botica was also fined £lO and costs 10s.
