500 INDIANS SET FREE
“NATIONAL ARMY” MEN
(11 a.m.) LUCKNOW, Dec. 18. The authorities have begun to release men of the Indian National Army, which was formed under Japanese sponsorship. More than 500 have now been freed. These men were captured by Field Marshal Rommel’s armies in North Africa and recaptured on the Western Front. The men said that Chandra Bose persuaded them to join Germany. Some expressed pride at having hoisted the Congress Party flag in Europe.
