AIRSTRIP CRASH
TRAGEDY AT LABUAN SIX AUSTRALIANS DEAD (9 a.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 18. Six Australian airmen were killed when an aircraft crashed while taking off from the Labuan (Borneo) airstrip last week. One of the victims was Group Captain Lyle Tolswich, who commanded the famous No. 13 Squadron, which flew Hudsons with spectacular gallantry against superior Japanese numbers during the Malaya campaign. The plane had taken off and was a few feet from the ground when it hit two Mustangs parked in bays just off the runway.
