BELOW STRENGTH

AMERICAN AIR FORCE OVERSEAS THEATRES DEMOBILISATION DEMANDS (9 a.m.) NEW YORK, Dec. 18. The deputy commander of the United States Army Air Force, General Carl Spaatz, told press representatives that the American Air Force has been so

seriously impaired by public pressure for rapid demobilisation that its operating proficiency is at present below the standard and it i s considered the minimum adequate for this period of American history. “The commanders overseas report that they have insufficient useable personnel to carry out the responsibilities assigned and which are considered essential by the joint Chiefs of Staff,” he added.

“One major theatre is not only considerably under strength but 40 per cent of the numbers on the rolls are already in the process of redeployment. The negotiations will be great and the consequences may be graver than most of us realise.”
