40 YEARS’ SERVICE
HARBOURMASTER RETIRES (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Dec. 19.
The resignation of the harbourmaster, Captain H. H. Sergeant, to date from March 31, 1946, was accepted with regret at a special meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board. Captain Sergeant completed 40 years’ service with the board on September 25. The same date marked the fiftieth anniversary of his first going to sea as an apprentice under sail and the thirty-third anniversary of his appointment as harbourmaster at Auckland.
A decision to grant Captain Sergeant 12 months’ leave of absence on full pay from the date of his retirement was made at the meeting of the board.
