Commencing from Monday next, the present reduced hours of broadcasting will be modifidtl to conform with the somewhat improved position in the electric supply in the North Island. All Broadcasting stations, until further notice, will close down only between 11.30 a.m. and noon, and 5.30 p.m. and 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, both days inclusive.. This was announced jointly last night by the Hons. R. Semple and F. Jones. The Ministers added that although with the lengthening days and improving weather the demand for power, particularly at the peak load hours, tended to fall, it was still necessary for all to avoid waste. The fuel stocks could be built up during the summer months in readiness for next winter’s demand only if the steam stations were not running to capacity.
